The care worker route closure and in country switching

New overseas recruitment of care workers and senior care workers, occupation codes SOC 6135 and 6136, closed on 22 July 2025. This means the platform cannot help people come to the UK from abroad as new care workers under those codes. We state this plainly so nobody is misled.

People who are already in the UK in the health and care sector may, during a transition period expected to run until around July 2028, be able to switch sponsors or extend their stay, subject to the rules in force at the time. This is why in country switching is a real and important audience for the platform.
